Moon calendar 2028: gardening and haircuts
The traditional moon rule recommends cutting hair for strong growth during a waxing Moon in Leo or Virgo. In 2028, examples include 9–10 February, 8–10 March and 4–7 April. There are no matching days in January or from September to December. For gardening, the rule is to sow fruiting crops on fruit days (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) during a waxing Moon, and root vegetables on root days (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) during a waning Moon. Neither rule has scientific support. A printable calendar is not yet available here for 2028, but there is one for 2027.

Why are January and autumn missing? The waxing Moon always occupies signs just after the Sun. In autumn, the Sun is in Libra and Scorpio, so the waxing Moon tends to be in Sagittarius through Taurus. In Leo and Virgo, it is then waning. After the new moon on 26 January 2028, the waxing Moon is mainly in Aquarius and Pisces.

Why people look for a 2028 moon calendar
Searches for “moon calendar 2028 haircuts” or “gardening moon calendar 2028” often turn up monthly grids without a clear rule, or calendars combining Leo, Virgo and Libra. The traditional rule in books such as “Vom richtigen Zeitpunkt” (“The Right Time”, Paungger/Poppe) is narrower: cut for growth during a waxing Moon in Leo or Virgo. The topic regularly appears on X, for example when @deavitacom asks on 3 October 2026 whether to check the moon calendar before a haircut. That reflects interest rather than providing evidence.
Tropical or sidereal?
There are two approaches. The rules in books such as “Vom richtigen Zeitpunkt” (“The Right Time”) use the tropical zodiac, as this page does. Maria Thun's biodynamic sowing calendar uses the visible constellations, now offset by roughly one sign. This explains why many moon calendars disagree: they follow different systems.
What the research says
Controlled trials have found no reliable effect of moon phase on hair growth or crop yields. Weather, soil temperature and the time of year matter much more. If you enjoy planning by the Moon, check frost and soil conditions first and use the lunar calendar to fine-tune your plans.
